Sartobind® Membrane Adsorbers – Trusted for More Than Two Decades in Commercial Processing
Sartobind® membranes transform chromatography steps into a highly productive process, from screening to production:
- The high flow rates of these adsorptive membranes make them 150× faster than a traditional column
- The capsule and cassette formats eliminate the need for packing hardware
- The membrane can be sized to fit the impurity removal process based on capacity rather than flow rate
- Single-use consumables eliminate the need for costly cleaning validation
- Available in a variety of chemistries
Capsules can be handled like a filter, and cassettes can be installed in less than 10 minutes
From 96-well plates to 5 L capsules and modular cassettes, Sartobind® offers a linear scale-up to all process scales
High flow rates (5 – 20 MV/min) reduce processing time, a dramatic contrast to columns with 0.5 CV/min or slower flow rates
The capsule and cassette formats eliminate the need for column packing, reducing the required facility space
Single-use consumables eliminate need for cleaning validation, while the fit based on capacity vs. flow rate reduces buffer consumption

Sartobind® Q
Sartobind® Q is highly flexible and used in a wide variety of processes such as the removal of HCP, DNA, viruses, and endotoxins. It is also applied for virus and nucleic acid (DNA/RNA) purification.
As with all Sartobind® membranes, the large pore structure is particularly suited to large biomolecules.
Sartobind® Q Mini
The new Sartobind® Q Mini provides 10|20 mL membrane volume, which allows bioprocess customers easier scale-up and is a perfect fit for the production of diagnostic products. Sartobind® Mini is directly scalable with the existing Sartobind® portfolio which ranges from process development (Nano) to commercial manufacturing (Jumbo and cassettes).
Sartobind STIC® PA
Sartobind STIC® PA can operate at high conductivity and can remove DNA at up to 1.5 M NaCl. DNA removal is possible even in the presence of phosphate buffers, which offers some unique processing opportunities.
Sartobind STIC® PA Mini
The new Sartobind STIC® PA Mini provides 10 mL membrane volume, which allows bioprocess customers easier scale-up and is a perfect fit for the production of diagnostic products. Sartobind® Mini is directly scalable with the existing Sartobind® portfolio which ranges from process development (Nano) to commercial manufacturing (Jumbo and cassettes).
Sartobind® S
Sartobind® S membrane adsorber is approved for use in drug manufacturing to remove host cell proteins at high flow rates. As a cation exchanger, Sartobind® S displays aggregate removal capabilities and typically achieves at least ten-fold higher binding capacity for viruses and virus-like-particles (VLP).
Sartobind® S Mini
The new Sartobind® S Mini provides 10|20 mL membrane volume, which allows bioprocess customers easier scale-up and is a perfect fit for the production of diagnostic products. Sartobind® Mini is directly scalable with the existing Sartobind® portfolio which ranges from process development (Nano) to commercial manufacturing (Jumbo and cassettes).
Sartobind® Membranes in HIC
Sartobind® Phenyl – Easy Aggregate Removal
Sartobind® Phenyl is a hydrophobic interaction membrane with low ligand substitution. This allows for mild elution conditions for the purification of all biomolecules.
Sartobind® Phenyl membranes can be considered as a replacement to columns for polishing (flow-through) operations and a number of bind-and-elute applications, as they work at much higher flow rates, reduced complexity and without size exclusion effects when purifying large biomolecules.
The typical dynamic binding capacity (DBC) at 10 % breakthrough is:
• 9-13 mg/mL mAb
• 10 mg/mL BSA
• 23 mg/mL Lysozyme
Sartobind® Phenyl Mini
The new Sartobind® Phenyl Mini provides 20 mL membrane volume, which allows bioprocess customers easier scale-up and is a perfect fit for the production of diagnostic products. Sartobind® Mini is directly scalable with the existing Sartobind portfolio which ranges from process development (Nano) to commercial manufacturing (Jumbo and cassettes).

Coming Soon: A Built-for-Purpose Membrane for Rapid Cycling Chromatography (RCC)
Rapid Cycling Chromatography in bioprocessing offers extremely high productivity compared to traditional and multi-column chromatography.
Implementing RCC requires the fine-tuned interaction of the appropriate devices, a supporting skid technology, and a purpose-designed membrane to provide high mass transfer combined with high permeability.
In addition to 10 to 15 times higher productivity, RCC allows process simplification, miniaturization and flexibility, bioburden risk mitigation and bound capital reduction.
