The application Backweigher V5 calculates the mass difference between initial and back weight. For this purpose, the tare weight and the initial weight of a sample are measured and by back weighing the mass difference is determined. For each sample up to five back weight values can be saved. The application Backweigher V5 offers different modes of difference or ratio calculation for the determination of results. The results can be export to SD-card or to network drives via FTP or can be printed out by a connected printer.

The Backweigher V5 application offers various access options to functions, depending on the user group. Editing, deleting or configuring the application is permitted only by users with administrator rights. All users are allowed to weigh samples.

This Q-App is for the calibration of piston pipettes with fix or variable volume.
There are two different methods available. The "Quickcheck" offers the workflow for a fast checking of a pipette with 4 measurements (3 x 4 measurements for variable pipettes), the performance check acc. ISO 8655 requires 10 measurements (3 x 10 for pipettes with variable volume).
After entering the pipette data (ID, nominal volume, typ) and the temperature and air pressure (for the Z-factor calculation) the user is guided through the calibration process.

The evaluation according ISO8655 tolerances is done by the workflow automatically (for both methods Quickcheck and Performance check).

On a Sartorius Lab pinter the calibration result can be documented accordingly.

Please note:
If you are interested in a PC based pipette calibration software including a pipette inventory, professional protocol editor, and much more go to our main web site and explore our Pipette Calibration Portfolio.

The following workflow provides a simple and safe way to test single-channel or multi-channel piston pipettes with fixed or adjustable volume (shape A, D1 or D2).

Two methods are available:

The "quick check" is based on the free entry of up to 9 repetitions.  The method "according to ISO 8655" requires 10 pipettings or 3 x 10 pipettings for variable pipettes. After entering of the pipette data as well as the climate data temperature and air pressure (to determine the Z factor), the Q-App guides the user through each calibration process step.

The evaluation takes place automatically and corresponds to the current tolerance requirements of ISO 8655 Standard. The calibration results can be documented via an interfaced Sartorius printer or by HTML visualization via the Q-Web-based network.

The Q-App has two levels, an administrator and a user. Administrators are allowed to configure the Q-App parameters. A configured timer-controlled function (for more information see the Cubis MSA manual) allows the fully automatic start of the Q-App. The synchronization only requires a logged in user with the permission to use this Q-App. If the deviation is larger than 2 seconds between NTP Server and the balance, an adjustment together with an audit trail entry will be done automatically.

The application offers two different workflows:

  1. Filling of liquid products in vessels or bags
  2. Fluid transfer for diluting cell cultures and filling with medium

Both applications have in common that liquid is transferred by means of a peristaltic pump. The pump is controlled by the current weight value. At present, the application can control Rotarus pumps from Hirschmann and the pump models 323Du, 530Du and 630Du from Watson-Marlow via a serial connection.

When filling products, product data and pump settings are stored in a product database. The start, fill and final speed of the pump can be set product-specifically. In addition, a reverse run can optionally be defined to pump liquid back in feeding hoses so that this portion is not counted as fill weight. The filling process is repeated according to the set number of samples and the results stored batch-specific in the product database. In addition, for filled containers or bags, labels may be printed including information such as sample number, filling weight and expiration date.

For cell culture applications, medium can be adjusted to the desired volume or inoculum diluted to the desired cell density. All volume and concentration calculations are carried out automatically and the fluid transfer through the peristaltic pump is controlled accordingly by the software application. All settings and results are stored in an experiment database. As with the filling of products, it is also possible to print labels for cell culture applications with cell line information, batch number, passage number, cell density and volume. For both workflows results can be saved to SD card or FTP.

The application provides an administrator and a user level. The administrator can create, change and delete products. A product is defined by a name and the target weight, and absolute or relative values for the allowed upper and lower tolerance of the deviation from the target weight can be set. Created products are stored in the product database on SD card.

The user can only portioning products. For this purpose, a product is selected in the first step and loaded from the database. In the next step, the batch is entered. If data is already stored for the batch, it can be loaded from the batch database of the SD card and the weighing of the batch is continued. Alternatively, the portioning of the batch can be restarted and existing data is deleted. If the entered batch is not found in the batch database, the program creates a new entry in the batch database.

The process of portioning starts with taring the target vessel. The user then weighs a portion of the batch and is graphically supported by a tolerance bar which displays the permissible tolerances. If the weight is out of tolerance, the user can correct it or accept the determined weighing value. The portioning process is repeated until the user presses "end". The software then generates statistics for all portioned samples of the batch and displays them. The determined data can be stored in the batch database on SD card and printed using a laboratory printer connected to the balance.

The Vial check application serves for the average weight control of the filling of vials.
The application offers administrator and a user level. The administrator can create products (definition of product name and ID, density of the liquid in the vial, automatic taring, dynamic tolerance, nominal weight, permissible tolerances, plausibility and number of samples). This product data is stored on an inserted SD card (maximum 500 products with 3 to 200 samples each).
A user is allowed to retrieve a correspondingly stored product from the product data memory and to check the filling accorsing to the default settings. The quick check mode can also be used to check products that have not previously been saved in the product data memory. In the process, the weight of the filled vials is first determined and then the fill weight is determined from the weight difference by weighing the empty vials in the same order. Samples outside the plausibility are not included in the evaluation, or the measurement of samples can be repeated using the correction key.
All measured values and evaluations are exported as * .csv file to an FTP server and can be printed out using a connected Sartorius laboratory printer. In the evaluation, the application determines the number of samples inside and outside the permissible tolerances and calculates the mean and standard deviation of the filling quantity, as well as the minimum and maximum filling quantity.
