SMART Films consortium

Sartorius has joined the SMART Films consortium for the Scalable Manufacturing of Aware and Responsive Thin Films. Based at the Birck Nanotechnology Center of the University of Purdue in Indiana, USA, the public-private partnership brings together industry members such as Bayer, Landauer and Eli Lilly, Applied Materials, Sartorius, and academics to create low-cost flexible sensing technologies embedded into polymeric films.

The consortium focuses on sensor research with capabilities for advanced roll-to-roll thin-film cleanroom production systems, functional printing and low-cost nanomanufacturing — all applied in fields like digital health, digital agriculture, and next-generation manufacturing technologies. Sartorius has participated in projects with the Birck Nanotechnology Center to develop low-cost nanosensors for life science and bioprocessing applications.
