Senior Scientist

As the Scientist based at Ann Arbor, MI, you will be responsible for supporting scientists/technologists during lab tests and research in their daily work. You will carry out sampling, testing, measuring, recording and analyzing in cooperation with the rest of the lab team.

Sartorius’ Process Development Services team in Ann Arbor, Michigan is a part of the Corporate Research group and is engaged in the design, development, and optimization of novel solutions for pre-clinical phase processes that can be transferred into manufacturing scale.  The Senior Scientist in this role will be responsible for leading technical and scientific activities for the development of exosome- and other biologics-related downstream processes.  This role is expected to build relationships and work closely together with an internal multi-disciplined Product Development team, and to ultimately create forward looking technologies that provide a basis for commercial products that can be integrated into our process development activities. 

This role requires 10-30% of travel, both foreign and domestic

This role will work in a Biosafety Level 2 Laboratory

What you will accomplish together with us

  • Conduct hands-on laboratory bench work to complete, optimize and troubleshoot downstream processes for exosomes and biologics
  • Lead the design and development of novel solutions for downstream applications and act as a major contributor to project execution
  • Engage in frequent interactions with clients and internal departments
  • Lead technology transfer activities to customers
  • Ensure quality, and timeliness of deliverables
  • Conduct technical investigations and risk assessments related with processes
  • Support generation of protocols, work instructions, batch records and reports
  • Function as a primary technical contact for the downstream processes
  • Perform independent data recording, analysis, and troubleshooting
  • Document work in concise reports and provide project updates in written and oral presentations
  • Provide technical support and training to internal and external collaborators
  • Perform occasional extended hours and weekends to support ongoing lab activities as needed
  • Mentor and support junior staff and build a culture of support and collaboration

What will convince us

  • MS or Ph.D in Bioengineering, or related discipline with experience with exosome analysis and processing
  • Experience & knowledge of state-of the-art exosome analytical and purification technologies and their application for research and development
  • Good knowledge of current developments in exosome and other nanoparticle technologies
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience with a breadth of analytical and purification systems that can be explored and applied to Exosome purification
  • Demonstrated ability to interface with specialists from target biological application areas and engineering disciplines such as mechanical (hardware, fluidic, thermal), electrical, software, sensor technology (optical, electronical), and chemical
  • Experience working as part of multi-partner R&D projects
  • Strong analytical and mathematical ability
  • Ability to work independently and constructively in a team environment
  • Must have strong personal initiative and be results oriented
  • Strong troubleshooting skills
