Natural Killer Cells (NK cells)
Natural killer cells (NK cells) belong to the recently discovered family of innate lymphoid cells (ILCs) and are a subset of cytotoxic lymphocytes involved in the innate immune system. They play an important role in the defense against tumors and virus-infected cells by releasing cytotoxic granules containing perforin and granzymes to directly lyse cells. NK cells act independently of antigen processing and presentation, allowing them to be easily activated and act rapidly. NK cells also produce pro-inflammatory cytokines such as interferon-gamma (IFN-γ). Immunotherapy based on NK cell infusions is a potential adjuvant treatment for many cancers.
To ensure a seamless transition from preclinical development to commercial manufacturing, we offer CellGenix® cytokines and growth factors both in GMP and preclinical grade.
Our GMP cytokines are provided with documented evidence of purity, potency, consistency and stability. In combination with our expert regulatory and technical support this will help simplify your raw material qualification and validation efforts.
CellGenix® GMP recombinant cytokines are produced following all applicable GMP guidelines and allow for the safe use in accordance with USP Chapter <1043>, Ph. Eur. General Chapter 5.2.12 and ISO 20399:2022.

IL-2
CellGenix® Recombinant Human IL‑2 (rh IL‑2) is an animal component–free cytokine that reliably activates and expands T cells, NK cells, and CIK cells. Both preclinical and GMP grades are manufactured in a dedicated animal-free GMP facility.
IL‑2 is mainly produced by T cells and is a key regulator of immune responses, involved in anti-inflammatory pathways, hematopoiesis, and tumor surveillance. In cell and gene therapy, IL‑2 supports proliferation and differentiation of CAR T, TCR T, Tregs, TILs, NK, and CIK cells.
IL-7
CellGenix® Recombinant Human IL‑7 (rh IL‑7) is an animal component–free cytokine that supports survival, proliferation, and differentiation of T cells and enhances NK cell survival. Both preclinical and GMP grades are manufactured in a dedicated animal-free GMP facility.
IL‑7 promotes differentiation of hematopoietic stem cells into lymphoid progenitors and drives proliferation of B, T, and NK cells. In cell and gene therapy, IL‑7 is used for ex vivo expansion of engineered T cells (e.g., CAR T cells), differentiation of iPSCs into T cells, and differentiation of cord blood–derived HSCs (CD34⁺) into NK cells.
Flt-3L
CellGenix® Recombinant Human FMS-like Tyrosine Kinase 3 Ligand (Flt-3L) i is an animal component–free cytokine that supports proliferation of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs). Both preclinical and GMP grades are produced in a dedicated animal-free GMP facility.
Flt‑3L regulates proliferation and differentiation of multiple blood cell progenitors and is used in cell and gene therapy for ex vivo expansion of HSCs used for transplantation.
SCF
CellGenix® Recombinant Human Stem Cell Factor (rh SCF) is an animal component–free cytokine that supports survival and differentiation of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells, drives cord blood–derived CD34⁺ cells toward NK cells, and is used to differentiate ESCs and iPSCs into megakaryocytes and T cells. Both preclinical and GMP grades are produced in a dedicated animal-free GMP facility.
SCF, produced by fibroblasts and endothelial cells, is essential for hematopoiesis, spermatogenesis, and melanogenesis and is used in cell and gene therapy of HSCs used for transplantation.
TPO
CellGenix® Recombinant Human Thrombopoietin (rh TPO) is an animal component–free cytokine that supports self‑renewal and maintenance of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs), drives their differentiation into NK cells, and promotes ESC/iPSC differentiation into megakaryocytes. Both preclinical and GMP grades are produced in a dedicated animal-free GMP facility.
TPO is a liver- and kidney-derived glycoprotein hormone that regulates platelet production by stimulating megakaryocyte formation. In cell and gene therapy, it is used for ex vivo expansion and differentiation of HSCs.
IL-15
CellGenix® Recombinant Human IL‑15 (rh IL‑15) is an animal component–free cytokine that promotes T cell proliferation, stimulates NK cell expansion, and supports generation of CIK cells. Both preclinical and GMP grades are produced in a dedicated animal-free GMP facility.
IL‑15 is a key cytokine in humoral and adaptive immunity, driving differentiation, maintenance, and activation of NK cells and multiple T cell subsets. In cell and gene therapy, IL‑15 is used for ex vivo expansion of CAR T, TCR T, TIL, and NK cells, as well as for CIK cell generation.
IL-21
CellGenix® Recombinant Human IL‑21 (rh IL‑21) is an animal component–free cytokine that promotes proliferation of T cells and NK cells and enhances their cytotoxicity. Both preclinical and GMP grades are produced in a dedicated animal-free GMP facility.
IL‑21 is key to humoral and adaptive immunity, stimulating NK cells and multiple T cell subsets, especially cytotoxic T cells. Produced by activated CD4⁺ T helper and NKT cells, IL‑21 is used in cell and gene therapy for ex vivo expansion of T cells (including CAR T and TCR T) and NK cells.
IL-6
CellGenix® Recombinant Human IL‑6 (rh IL‑6) is an animal component–free cytokine that drives maturation of immature dendritic cells (DCs) and promotes proliferation of cord blood–derived HSCs (CD133⁺). Both preclinical and GMP grades are produced in a dedicated animal-free GMP facility.
IL‑6 is a multifunctional cytokine with pro‑ and anti‑inflammatory roles, regulating acute phase responses, hematopoiesis, bone metabolism, cancer progression, and immunity. Produced mainly by T cells, monocytes, and macrophages, it is used in cell and gene therapy for ex vivo DC maturation and HSC expansion.
IL-12
CellGenix® Recombinant Human IL‑12 (rh IL‑12) is an animal component–free cytokine that promotes NK cell proliferation and drives naïve T cells toward a Th1 phenotype.
IL‑12 is produced by activated antigen-presenting cells (e.g., dendritic cells, macrophages) and is key for Th1 differentiation and enhanced cytotoxic activity of NK cells and CD8⁺ T cells. In cell and gene therapy, it is used for ex vivo activation and expansion of T cells (including CAR‑T and TCR) and NK cells.
CellGenix® rh IL‑12 is produced in Chinese Hamster Ovary cells (CHOSI), enabling authentic human-like post‑translational modifications that are not achievable with bacterial expression systems.
IL-18
CellGenix® Recombinant Human IL‑18 (rh IL‑18) is an animal component–free cytokine that promotes proliferation of natural killer (NK) cells.
IL‑18 is a key mediator of innate and adaptive immunity, enhancing NK and T cell activity by stimulating interferon‑gamma (IFN‑γ) production. Produced by activated macrophages and other cells, it is used in cell and gene therapy for ex vivo activation and expansion of T cells (including CAR‑T and TCR) and NK cells.
