Sartorius Introduces Faster, Higher Capacity Sartolab® RF|BT Vacuum Filtration Units

Göttingen, November 1, 2021

  • Redesigned units provide faster, higher capacity and greater physical stability for a wide range of sample types
  • Larger membrane surface area facilitates optimal filtration
  • Use of polyethersulfone membrane in the 0.45 µm pore size filter increases the flow rate with the same low protein binding properties

The Life Science Group Sartorius today launched Sartolab® RF|BT 150 - 1000 vacuum filtration units that have been redesigned to offer faster and higher capacity filtration with greater physical stability for a wide range of sample types. Design modifications include:

  • An increase of the membrane surface area to facilitate optimal filtration
  • Replacement of the 0.45 µm cellulose acetate membrane with a 0.45 µm polyethersulfone membrane to increase the flow rate while keeping the same low protein binding properties
  • An optimized center of gravity to increase stability of the units
  • Direct use on the Sartolab® Multistation for parallel filtration

“We are excited to introduce our updated Sartolab® vacuum filtration units which build upon the benefits and ergonomic design of the original units,” said Catherine Leluan, Product Manager. “The redesign of these units exemplifies our commitment to engineer products that accelerate and streamline workflows, are user-friendly and are well-suited for the busy laboratory setting. In addition, improvement in our manufacturing controls are expected to lead to increased robustness of supply to help meet growing market demand.”

Sartolab® RF|BT vacuum filtration units are designed for research purposes and filtration of small volumes from 50 mL to 1 L. Sartolab® RF units include a receiver flask to the filtration funnel while the Sartolab® BT design includes only a bottle top filter (filtration funnel) enabling customers to use their own receiver flasks and/or expand the filtration capacity, depending on the particle load of the filtered liquid, by filling more than one receiver flask. These filtration units offer the highest flow rates with a large filtration area, a low protein affinity membrane to minimize protein loss and an optimized membrane support for a low hold-up volume.

The Sartolab® RF|BT vacuum filtration units are available in three different pore sizes to meet most of the applications:

  • 0.1 µm for mycoplasma removal
  • 0.22 µm for sterile filtration of cell culture media, buffers, and reagents
  • 0.45 µm for clarification of aqueous and viscous solutions

Sartolab® RF|BT products are now manufactured in a new plant designed to meet growing market demand for vacuum filtration units. The plant is ISO 13485 certified, and an ISO Class 8 cleanroom assures the highest level of sterility.

Improved efficiency of logistics during manufacture combined with improved storage processes has reduced the carbon footprint required for global distribution of these units by 99%.
