Innovating Cell Analysis with AI

Sartorius Corporate Research is advancing AI-based image analysis methods with higher accuracy, enabling researchers to observe live cells in a non-disruptive environment over time and providing critical insights into cell behavior, function, and interactions. This understanding is essential for developing effective therapeutics across various research areas.

Our Work

Integrating AI and ML into Incucyte® workflows

Sartorius is advancing AI-based image analysis methods for the Incucyte, incorporating complex algorithms into user-friendly workflows. Key applications include accurate cell segmentation and label-free quantification of cell viability and morphology. Our solutions are designed to be accessible to researchers without requiring expertise in data science or machine learning. By integrating AI and ML models into application-based packages, users can leverage complex algorithms through a simplified interface.

AI Cell Health uses two neural networks to segment individual cells and classify them as live or dead. This label-free analysis provides highly accurate cell count and viability measurements, as well as additional insight into the fluorescence within live and dead cell populations. The AI-based cell segmentation and in silico labelling techniques were initiated by Sartorius Corporate Research and Sartorius Bioanalytics, in collaboration with the German Institute of AI (DFKI; see below). As part of this collaboration, we continue to improve cell segmentation methods using increasingly complex cell models and new AI-driven methods.
