Biosart® 100
Biosart® 100
Biosart® 100 Monitors are ready-to-use, sterile filtration units designed for reliable microbial testing in water, food, and beverage quality control. Stable materials support their optional reusability via autoclaving. Purpose-built for applied industry workflows, these single-use systems simplify colony enumeration of bacteria, yeasts, and molds—minimizing handling steps and reducing contamination risks.
Unlike traditional methods, Biosart® 100 Monitors coupled with Biosart® 100 Media eliminate the need to transfer the membrane to a separate agar plate. Once the filtration of the sample and Biosart® 100 Medium is complete, the funnel/cylinder detaches easily and doubles as a Petri dish for incubation, creating a fully self-contained solution from filtration through to colony growth and analysis.
Key Benefits at a Glance
- Ready-to-Use & Sterile — Preassembled and pre-sterilized units for immediate use, eliminating the need for cleaning or autoclaving.
- Reliable Microbial Testing — Designed for water, food, and beverage quality control, ensuring dependable results.
- Simplified Workflow: Single-use systems minimize handling steps and reduce contamination risk.
- Self-Contained Solution — Funnel/cylinder detaches to double as a Petri dish, eliminating membrane transfer to separate agar plates.
- Easy Integration — Compatible with standard vacuum manifolds for seamless filtration to incubation.
- Versatile Membrane Options — Available in various pore sizes and color-coded membranes for optimized colony visibility and accurate counting.
- Superior Microbial Recovery — Cellulose nitrate filters ensure high recovery rates for bacteria, yeasts, and molds.

Frequently Asked Questions
Microsart® @Filter is a sterile filtration unit (funnel, membrane filter and filter support) ideal for workflows that require transferring a membrane onto agar plates.
Biosart® 100 monitors combine funnel, membrane filter, cellulose pad, and sterile filter support in a single filtration unit. After adding the liquid medium from the ampoule (Biosart medium), the filtration unit is directly converted into a Petri dish—no membrane transfer is required.
Both product lines offer 0.2 µm and 0.45 µm membranes. High-flow variants are available for faster filtration of turbid samples.
Microsart® @Filter is available in 100 mL and 250 mL funnel options. Biosart® 100 Monitors are designed for typical sample volumes used in QC workflows.
Microsart® @Filter pairs with Microsart® stainless-steel manifolds, Microsart e.jet liquid transfer pump and Microsart® @Media plates or alternatively standard 60 or 90mm agar plates. Biosart® 100 Monitors work with Microsart® stainless-steel manifolds (version Biosart 100), the Microsart e.jet liquid transfer pump and Biosart Media in Ampoules.
Yes. Both systems are designed to support GMP and quality standards in pharmaceutical and applied microbiology labs.
Microsart® @Filter is available in different membrane types:
- Gridded Cellulose Nitrate (Mixed Cellulose Ester) membranes for filtration of aqueous solutions
- Plane Cellulose Nitrate (Mixed Cellulose Ester) membranes for Automated Colony Counting Applications
- PVDF membrane for filtration of alcoholic and organic solutions
- Regenerated Cellulose for filtration of solvents and acidic industrial process waters (pH range 3 – 12)
- PC membranes for retention of Microorganisms for further analysis (e.g. where you need to flush the microbes from the membrane, usage for Rapid Testing Methods)
The system allows thorough rinsing of inhibitors like antibiotics and preservatives, minimizing interference in microbial recovery.
Choose between 100 mL and 250 mL options with clear volume markings.
100 mL funnel has marks at 20, 50 and 100 mL. 250 mL funnel has marks at 50, 100, 200 and 250 mL.
It eliminates sterilization and handling steps, reduce handling time and operator fatigue, ensures reliable recovery, even in large or inhibitor-containing samples.
When paired with Microsart® @Media, membranes can be moved touch-free using an integrated adhesive lid.
