Application Note: Generation and live-cell imaging of 3D advanced cancer cell models
Last updated: November 2024
Overview
In recent years, the high rate of drug failures in clinical trials has been attributed, in part, to the use of non-representative screening assays for compound testing. Traditional 2D cell cultures, commonly employed in these assays, lack the physiological relevance necessary for accurate drug testing. In contrast, 3D cell culture models offer a more realistic representation of the in vivo microenvironment by incorporating matrices with tissue-relevant stiffness and biofunctionalities, allowing cells to exhibit more native phenotypes.
As the demand for scalable workflows to generate and analyze these complex 3D cell models grows, innovative solutions are emerging to facilitate compound testing in preclinical settings.
