Raising Funds for Childhood Cancer
On June 1, more than 850 people participated in the "Course des Flammes" in Marseille, France. Among the participants were almost 100 employees from the Sartorius site in Aubagne, located about 20km from Marseille. They once again took part in the challenging races and raised a total of 18,500 Euros for the cause.
Participants could choose to take part in a number of different races: a 3 km orienteering race, marked out with clues and beacons to help the runners get further along the course, two other races of 6 and 10 km and a 15km trail through the hills in the northern districts of Marseille overlooking the Château Ricard.
The funds raised will go to the organization "Sourire à la vie", which helps children cope with cancer diagnoses and accompanies them through their treatment.
Running Together in Support of Women’s Rights and Breast Cancer Research
Additionally, team members from the Aubagne site also participated in the "La Marseillaise des Femmes" race a few days earlier on May, 26 and joined the 8,000 participants on the 5 km track through the heart of Marseille.
Launched in 2010, the "Marseillaise des Femmes" is a race from and for citizens, supporting the rights of women as well as medical research against breast cancer. While the race is primarily a run for women, men are also welcome to join – provided they are invited by a woman and they cross the finish line together. The event focuses on fun and joint commitment to a good cause, with a manageable distance that accommodates both runners and walkers alike.
