eBook: Generate Clonal Cell Lines Faster with Intelligent Tools
Overview
Biopharmaceutical drugs such as monoclonal antibodies (mAbs), recombinant proteins and vaccines have become an integral part of modern medicine. Hailed for their ability to target specific molecules within the human body, these therapeutics are among the most effective clinical treatment modalities currently available. As such, they are used to treat an increasingly broad range of conditions including cancers, metabolic disorders and infectious diseases such as COVID-19.
Unlike traditional chemically synthesized drugs, biopharmaceuticals - or biologics - are manufactured using living host cells as production centers. Generation of these biologic-producing cell lines is known as cell line development (CLD) and comprises numerous time-consuming, expensive and technically challenging steps. During CLD, thousands of cellular clones are screened to find those that are stable, produce high yields of biologic and exhibit desired critical quality attributes (CQAs). Media and culture conditions are subsequently optimized in multi-parallel, small-scale bioreactors to achieve higher cell growth and optimal molecule yield before cell lines are banked for commercial drug production.
This eBook examines cell line development challenges in greater detail and explores a range of intelligent analytical solutions that can be incorporated into CLD workflows to eliminate bottlenecks in clone selection, fast-track development timelines, optimize CQAs and reduce costs.
