Donations instead of gifts: Sartorius supports laboratory diagnostics in East Africa

Sartorius is continuing its tradition of “donations instead of gifts” and is supporting the “Jambo Labs” project run by the German medical aid organization action medeor with a donation of 60,000 euros this Christmas. The aim of the project is to improve access to vital laboratory services in six hospitals in Tanzania and Zanzibar through equipment, training, and quality management. This will give around 430,000 patients direct access to high-quality diagnostic services each year. In addition, action medeor plans to train laboratory technicians and medical staff.

Many clinics in Tanzania and Zanzibar lack modern laboratory technology and qualified medical staff. This results in delayed or incorrect diagnoses – with sometimes life-threatening consequences for diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis, or diabetes. The “Jambo Labs” project aims to create structures that will improve medical care in the long term through a combination of modern equipment, improved maintenance, training, and quality management. Already, 50 percent more laboratory equipment is in use and 240 additional specialists have been trained for the laboratory teams.
