From drug discovery to functional screening, researchers are pushing the limits of what’s possible with cytometry. Yet common frustrations persist: labor-intensive workflows, throughput constraints, and the difficulty of extracting clear answers from complex data. The iQue® 5 High Throughput Screening (HTS) cytometer  was designed with these challenges in mind—bringing the next generation of speed, efficiency, and usability to high-throughput screening by cytometry.

To give us an inside look at what makes the iQue® 5 so powerful, we sat down with Jonah Riddell, Product Manager in the BioAnalytics division at Sartorius. Jonah explains how this system is setting a new standard for cytometry — delivering ultra-fast results, expanded multiplexing capabilities, and user-friendly software, all in one compact platform.

Introducing the iQue® 5: A New Era in High-Throughput Screening by Cytometry

Q: What Makes the iQue® 5 a Game-Changer in High-Throughput Screening by Cytometry?

A: The iQue® 5 is the latest innovation in our iQue® HTS cytometry series, created for the unique requirements of high-content workflows . It’s built on a legacy of speed and efficiency but takes it to the next level with faster performance and a more intuitive user experience.

Q: How does the iQue® 5 stand out from earlier models?

A: The biggest upgrade is the four-laser system, supporting up to 27 detection channels, a significant boost from the two- or three-laser options in previous generations. Together with usability improvements and automation readiness, this instrument aligns with the way scientists are working now.

Q: Does it still include Sartorius' proprietary sampling technology?

A: Absolutely. It uses the same core proprietary technology—sample, air gap, sample—that enables users to screen a 96-well plate in under five minutes. In that respect there is nothing else quite like it out there.

Q: Who is the iQue® 5 built for?

A: It’s purpose-built for screening customers who need fast, high-quality data with minimal sample input. Imagine profiling 500+ monoclonal antibodies in a week or evaluating multiple CAR-T designs in a single experiment . It balances speed, scalability, and simplicity—exactly what our users have asked for.

Q: What about user-friendliness? Do users need flow cytometry expertise?

A: Not at all. The iQue® 5 is designed for walk-up usability. It’s intuitive enough for users without specialized cytometry training, making it ideal for screening environments. The iQue Forecyt® Software is a big part of this. iQue® users are always telling us how much they love it.

Q: What’s new with the software experience?

A: The iQue® 5 runs on an enhanced version of iQue Forecyt® Software, which now includes:

  • New templated analyses
  • Improved connectivity to open automation platforms
  • Advanced clog detection and management features
