Sartorius Stedim Biotech, a leading partner to the biopharmaceutical industry, is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its M'Hamdia site in Tunisia. Established in 2001, the location has grown from a small manufacturing center into a strategic assembly hub serving customers worldwide. The M'Hamdia site focusses on single-use solutions such as bags, which help customers manufacture biotech medications, vaccines, and cell and gene therapies more safely, rapidly, and sustainably. Today, Sartorius Stedim Biotech celebrates this milestone together with key stakeholders at a ceremony highlighting the company's longstanding contribution to industrial development, innovation, and employment in the life sciences in Tunisia.

"Over the past 25 years, M'Hamdia has become a key part of our manufacturing network, enabling us to deliver reliable, high-quality single-use solutions to customers around the world” said René Fáber, CEO of Sartorius Stedim Biotech. "With the biopharmaceutical industry expected to continue its growth trajectory, our M'Hamdia site is well positioned to contribute to bringing innovative therapies to more patients globally."

25 years of continuous growth and investment

Established in 2001, the M'Hamdia site began production operations in 2002 under the Stedim group. Following the creation of Sartorius Stedim Biotech in 2007, the facility became part of its global organization supporting biopharmaceutical manufacturers worldwide. Since then, the site has grown continuously through investments in infrastructure, manufacturing capabilities, and workforce development. To support this growth, Sartorius Stedim Biotech launched the Sartorius Tunisian Academy in 2020, helping employees develop the skills required for advanced cleanroom operations. A major expansion completed in 2021 laid the foundation for the site's current scale. Today, the capacity spans approximately 20,000 square meters, including 4,500 square meters of production space as well as 4,000 square meters of cleanroom facilities. The site operates three cleanrooms and 36 assembly lines producing solutions such as Biosafe, Flexsafe, and Flexel 3D. Reflecting its long-term commitment to the site, Sartorius Stedim Biotech invested more than 21 million euros between 2021 and 2025. Today, over 800 people work at the facility, more than twice as many as at the beginning of the decade, and half of the workforce are women.

A strong commitment to quality, sustainability and people

The site's development has been driven by a continuous commitment to quality, environmental responsibility, health and safety and sustainable operations. This commitment is reflected in a series of internationally recognized certifications, including ISO 50001 for energy management and ISCC PLUS for sustainability. Over the past years, the facility has received multiple national distinctions from Tunisian institutions and public agencies, recognizing its achievements in occupational health and safety, employee development, social progress as well as innovation and technology transfer. These distinctions include the National Occupational Health and Safety Award, as well as the KAFAET certification recognizing excellence in employee training and workforce development.

“This 25th anniversary is above all a celebration of the people who have shaped M'Hamdia over the years. Their commitment and expertise have made the facility what it is today: a trusted partner for our customers. We look forward to continuing this journey together and contributing to the development of the life science sector for many years to come,” said Abderrahim Ben Fraj, Head of Operations at Sartorius Stedim Biotech's M'Hamdia site.
