Sartorius donates 20,000 euros to action medeor

Göttingen, August 18, 2022

  • Sartorius is donating a portion of its revenue from pipette sales
  • The donation will finance a study to improve pharmaceutical training in West Africa
  • The company has had a partnership with medical aid organization action medeor since 2015

The life science company Sartorius is supporting medical aid organization action medeor with a further donation of 20,000 euros. The money is intended to finance a feasibility study on improving pharmaceutical training in West Africa.

This donation continues an existing commitment by Sartorius. Previously, in 2020, the company provided support for a successful project to implement a non-academic pharmaceutical training program in the East African country of Tanzania. As part of this, a classroom within a public vocational college in the Mpanda region was renovated and supplied with educational material.

This latest study will help to lay the foundations for expansion of this project into countries in West Africa, such as Liberia or Togo. The money that will finance the project has been raised through a special pipette trade-in initiative: since the beginning of 2022, 10 euros were added to the donation pot for every used pipette that customers handed in to Sartorius in exchange for a new one.

“Trained pharmaceutical staff are fundamental to good healthcare. We want this donation to help transfer very positive experiences from Tanzania to other countries, improving pharmaceutical training in West African countries as well,” stated Frank Gatzemeyer, project lead and Head of Market Development Lab Water at Sartorius.

Sartorius has partnered with action medeor since 2015. As a life science company, Sartorius contributes to the development of new and better therapies and more affordable medicine. Donations allow people in need to be treated with life-saving drugs, medical staff to be trained and access to drinking water to be improved. Recently, Sartorius supported action medeor in delivering medical supplies to people in Ukraine.
