Cornerstone laying ceremony for the Life Science Factory
A cornerstone laying ceremony was held in the city of Göttingen, Germany, for the Life Science Factory, a research center initiated by Sartorius for life science startups. Taking shape on the former Sartorius headquarters site, this center is located in the heart of Sartorius Quartier, a quarter featuring mixed-use zoning, and is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2021.

Life Science Factory offers space and support to prospective scientific entrepreneurs and young companies willing to take their first steps beyond the comfort zone of academic institutions. Based on an exemplary business model already established in the USA as a launch pad for life science startups, the Life Science Factory is designed to promote scientific progress in the life science sector and strengthen research and development of innovative technologies with a clear focus on applications.
Laboratory space and co-working rooms are available for this purpose, as are networking opportunities, mentoring and corporate finance assistance. The Life Science Factory provides ample room for creativity: a lab space of 1,300 m² or nearly 14,000 ft², along with advanced laboratory equipment that can be shared; an additional dry lab covering 200 m² or 2,153 ft² and furnished with prototyping equipment; and an event space measuring 300 m² or close to 3,330 ft².
Stemming from former Sartorius factory site, the Sartorius Quartier covers around 24,000 m² or some 260,000 ft² and, in line with the motto of "Learn - Launch - Live," will accommodate an Ottobock patient care center with an adjacent physical therapy and rehabilitation center that are both being built on the site. Also under construction are a hotel and smart apartments, a children’s daycare center and 170 rental apartments and 53 condominiums that will be completed by the end of 2022.
