Rapid Cycling Chromatography in mAb Capture

Requirements for High Productivity

Rapid Cycling Chromatography (RCC) in bioprocessing offers extremely high productivity compared to traditional and multi-column chromatography. Implementing RCC requires the tuned interaction of:

  • a purpose-designed membrane
  • suitable devices
  • a supporting skid technology

The base matrix needs to provide high mass transfer combined with high permeability. The novel 'convecdiff' membrane enables high binding capacity with residence time of seconds. In order to ensure suitability for bioprocessing, providing adequate bed height in a scalable and proven device portfolio is required. An optimized skid must address the challenges of running many cycles in a short time – fast flow rates, rapid buffer changes, and data handling and analysis.

In addition to 15 to 20 times higher productivity, RCC allows process simplification, miniaturization and flexibility, as well as bioburden risk mitigation and bound capital reduction.

New 'Convecdiff' Base Membrane For Intensified mAb Capture

Intensified processing is achieved using high throughput tools that are most often also single-use, scaled-down and cost-effective. Applying this concept to a mAb capture step requires new high throughput and high productivity materials.
