In this interview Dr. Alexandra Krasnikova, Head of Product Management, Lab Essentials, speaks about her career path, her daily impact on innovation and the challenges of learning German.

What are your responsibilities in your current role at Sartorius?

Currently, I lead the Product Management team for our Lab Essentials product portfolio. This is a really important role in a group of companies such as ours, which provides innovative solutions to customers and is constantly looking for ways to make the lives of scientists easier while getting results faster and with full traceability of the processes, whether it is biopharma research, beverage quality control or diamond quality laboratories. Together with my team, we are working on the product and solution roadmap up until 2025, and beyond, based on the trends in the market and the upcoming innovative technologies, with input from our Sales and Segment Marketing teams. The major partners of this process are our Product Development and Operations teams, who are embodying our ideas and make newly launched products available to our customers.
 

What would you do differently if you could start over?

I do not think that I would do anything differently – I am happy with the way it has all gone. I enjoy seeing the successes of my former Russian team, and look forward to growing together with the Product Management team. The only thing I would do earlier – start to learn German as fast as possible because it is always not easy to find free time to do it now :-).
 

Do you think that it is more challenging for women to be in leadership positions than men?

I do not think that there is a difference. You need to reach the targets, you need to respect and lead the team, you need to understand your customers, and you need to be open and strategic when building your plans on how to develop teams, products or sales. In any case, the most important thing is to be yourself, know what you are doing and challenge the current status of things in order to make progress.
 

How would you appeal to young applicants to join Sartorius?

This is the best company if you want to be challenged, learn about the entire innovative world in biopharma, become involved in cross-functional projects and see the whole world. You will need to invest your efforts into learning and following new processes as staying on top of new products and tools. As soon as you have gained this knowledge, you can enjoy the success of seeing your customers opening plants with solutions you suggested, lab tests becoming the standard in helping to find the best therapies for severely sick patients based on product workflows you created, and many more other practical implementations of Sartorius innovations.
