Sr Research Scientist Digital Tools in Cell and Gene Therapies

In the position of Senior Scientist for the Advanced Data Analytics, you will be responsible for the development of models to advance the development and manufacture of biopharmaceutical cell and gene therapies (Advance Therapy; AT), including . Advanced therapies is an emerging field of therapeutics within biopharma that use gene therapy, cell therapy and tissue engineering. You will be a part of the Corporate Research team that utilizes state-of-the-art mechanistic, AI/ML and engineering methods and algorithms to exploit the latest technologies in the development and manufacturing of new therapies.  The Advanced Data Analytics team has made significant advancements in the development of digital tools towards monoclonal antibody type bioprocesses. This position is expected to benefit from the progress made for CHO mABs and extend these modeling capabilities towards applications targeted to high value use cases in AT. The preferred location for this position is at our Ann Arbor (MI) or Boston (MA) sites, alternatively home-based in the Greater Toronto Area (Canada).

Sartorius is seeking a dynamic entrepreneurially spirited Senior Research Scientist Digital Tools for their Advanced Therapy product portfolio.  In this role for the Advanced Data Analytics you will be responsible for the development of models to advance the development and manufacture of biopharmaceutical cell and gene therapies (advanced therapies; AT). Location: Preference will be given to those based in the Ann Arbor, MI area.

What you will accomplish together with us

  • Lead the digital strategy for evaluation and development of simulation and advanced control applications in advanced therapies
  • Work with the Sartorius Corporate Research team in coordinating digital solutions with the Sartorius portfolio of AT solutions
  • Monitor and evaluate developments in AT modeling research
  • Collaborate with external partners and Corporate Research groups and work with relevant research laboratory teams to run experiments for development and evaluation of AT digital methods
  • Develop proof-of-concept (PoC) tools which can be passed on to commercial software development teams

What will convince us

  • M.Sc./Ph.D. in chemical engineering, (bio)physics or other relevant modeling background required
  • Documented experience in AT development and manufacturing processes
  • Fluent in scripting languages, e.g. Python for execution of data science studies required
  • Self-motivated and comfortable working independently and when applicable, remotely
  • Exposure to software product development, delivery practices, and related tools preferred
  • Experience with machine-learning frameworks, i.e. Tensorflow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn, etc. preferred
  • Ability to develop prototype software for real-time simulation and control applications
  • Problem solver with strong background in physics-based modeling
