Cell Therapy MSC Mesenchymal Stem Cell illustration

Innovative Tools for Streamlined MSC R&D Workflows

Maximize MSC Research with Deeper Insights, Automation, and Enhanced Characterization

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are adult stem cells isolated from various sources such as bone marrow, adipose tissue and umbilical cord. They are multipotent cells with the capacity to differentiate into cell types such as osteocytes (bone cells), chondrocytes (cartilage cells), myocytes (muscle cells) and fat cells of adipose tissue (adipocytes).

MSCs secrete a host of chemical messengers, including chemokines, cytokines, growth factors, metabolic products and small molecules such as microRNAs (miRNAs), which act on neighboring cells to produce biological effects.

The potential of MSCs to differentiate into various cell types and their immunomodulatory functions make them attractive candidates for regenerative therapies and chronic inflammatory disease treatment.

Effective advanced cytotherapies require reliable equipment and bioprocesses to move from research to clinical phases and eventually gain regulatory approval. Challenges can include:

  • Controlling variability to ensure reproducibility of experiments
  • Automating assays to understand and characterize MSCs and their therapeutic effects
  • Running assays at throughput to accelerate the development of insights
  • Characterizing the phenotype and function of MSCs and affected tissues to measure therapeutic effect of MSCs
  • Gaining insight into MSC therapeutic potential through extensive characterization to establish critical quality attributes (CQAs)
